Sleep, Supercars and Sunrise
A waterfront primary suite where the sun arrived hours before the owner wanted it to — and where the fix was a schedule, not a product.
The bedroom that fought the sunrise, and won it back. Circadian automation designed around the owner's sleep schedule, not a factory default.
An east-facing bedroom on the water, and a late working schedule.
The room was designed for the view, and the view faces the sunrise. The owner's day ends late and begins later, which put the architecture and the occupant in direct conflict every single morning. Blackout treatment alone had already been tried, and it had made the room feel like a vault.
We measured the room at the hours it was failing.
We observed the suite at dawn and again in the last hour before sleep, tracking where light entered, how long the room took to settle, and which of the owner's habits were workarounds rather than preferences. The design was written around that actual schedule.
Two layers of shade, sequenced rather than switched.
A sheer layer holds the view and softens the early light; a blackout layer sits behind it and moves on the owner's schedule, not a factory default. Interior lighting warms and drops across the evening so the body is given the same signal the sky used to give it, and reverses gradually in the morning so waking is a fade rather than an event.
The quiet had to be engineered, not assumed.
Shade motors were selected and mounted for silence, and equipment was moved out of the suite entirely. A bedroom sequence that can be heard running is a bedroom sequence that wakes you.
The schedule is written down, and adjustable.
Scene and schedule documentation was delivered with the project, so the sequence can be shifted as the owner's routine shifts — without reprogramming from scratch.
The room kept its view. The owner got the morning back.
